Wieliczkan suolakaivos on yksi arvokkaimmista ja kiehtovimmista kulttuuriperintökohteista Puolassa. Wieliczkan kaupungissa, eteläisessä Puolassa sijaitseva kaivos rakennettiin 1300-luvulla ja se tuotti suolaa aina vuoteen 2007 asti. Vaikka kaupallinen toiminta päättyi jo vuonna 1996 alhaisen suolan hinnan ja tulvien vuoksi, on kaivos pysynyt yhtenä Puolan suositummista nähtävyyksistä, ja vuosittain kaivoksella vierailee yli 1,2 miljoonaa turistia. Suolasta veistettyjä, kaivoksen työntekijöiden tekemiä historiallisia patsaita ja hahmoja tullaan ihailemaan ympäri maailmaa. Todellinen nähtävyys on kuitenkin suolasta valmistettu kappeli, jota käytetään vieläkin yksityistilaisuuksiin, jopa vihkimisiin. “Salt mine fine, Auschwitz's pick up time ridiculous, we are on holiday not to get up 4-30 am will not be using you again”

“Pick up was as planned. Driver was polite and escorted us to the entrance. Salt mines were amazing. A lot of walking but well worth the effort. Didn't feel at all claustrophobic, until the fast elevator back to the surface which I didn't enjoy. Some of the chambers are spectacular. Excellent.”
