Dachau Concentration Camp for political prisoners was opened in 1933, only weeks after Adolf Hitler became the Reich Chancellor and it was a model camp for later concentration camps.
Until the American troops liberated the survivors in 1945, more than 200.000 people were imprisoned in Dachau. 41.500 people were murdered.
Today Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site is visited by people from all over the world to remember the prisoners and learn about its devastating history. It is located northwest of Munich in Southern Germany.
