Mitä kaikkea voit tehdä kohteessa 9-11-muistomerkki ja -museo
Syyskuun 11. päivän muistomerkki on inspiroiva ja vaikuttava kokemus, jota New Yorkissa kävijän ei kannata jättää välistä. Se koostuu kahdesta upotetusta vesiputousaltaasta, jotka sijaitsevat tuhoutuneiden kaksoistornien paikalla. Molempia altaita ympäröi pronssiset laatat, joissa on 11. syyskuuta 2001 tapahtuneen tragedian, sekä vuoden 1993 räjähdyksessä menehtyneiden uhrien nimet.
Seiso 2787 neliömetrin suuruisten altaiden edessä, katsellen veden virtaavan yhdeksän metrin syvyyteen hopeisia lankoja pitkin, taustana musta graniittiseinä. Katse kulkee jatkuvasti alaspäin ja samaan aikaan takana olevaan tyhjiöön, joka vedestä heijastuu. Muistomerkin nimi onkin osuvasti ”Reflecting Absence” –heijastava poissaolo.
Altaita ympäröi 2 243 istutettua 24 metrin korkuista valkojokitammea, jotka luovat rauhaisan viheralueen ja joiden odotettu elinikä on 350 vuotta. Joukossa on myös Survivor Tree, päärynäpuu joka pelastettiin tuhon raunioista, kunnostettiin ja on nyt osana muistomerkkiä. Puu on yksi monista koskettavista yksityiskohdista, jotka tekevät paikasta unohtumattoman.
9/11 Memorial -museo
9/11 Memorial -museo sijaitsee World Trade Centerin alueen sydämessä. Voit tutustua interaktiivisesti syyskuun 11. päivän tapahtumiin. Esillä on lisäksi dokumentoituja arkistoja ja kokoelma esineitä.
