Niagaran putouksesta alas laskeminen tynnyrillä oli hupia 1900-luvun seikkailijoiden keskuudessa. Ensimmäisenä tehtävästä selviytyi Annie Edson Taylor vuonna 1901, joka laski putouksen suljetussa, ilmaa sisältävässä tynnyrissä. Englantilainen Charles Stephens ei ollut niin onnekas vuonna 1920. Hän sitoi varuilta kätensä tynnyrin sisällä olevaan alasimeen. Laskun jälkeen löydettiin käsivarsi, tynnyri ja alasin, mutta ei Charlesia.
Vuonna 1930 kreikkalainen tarjoilija, George Statakis jumitti tynnyrissään vesiputouksen pyörteessä 14 tuntia selviämättä hengissä. Ehkä vieläkin traagisempi oli Robert Overcrackerin hyppy putouksen reunalta vesiskootterilla. Hypyn jälkeen oli tarkoitus tulla laskuvarjolla alas. Varjo ei auennut ja hän sukelsi kirjaimellisesti kuolemaan.
Oliko joku vielä hurjapäisempi? Ehkä Kirk Jones vuonna 2003, joka humalapäissään hetken mielijohteesta päätti uida virran yli, suojanaan pelkät vaatteet. Kumma kyllä, hän selvisi, tosin mojovin sakoin, ja hän sai loppuelämän porttikiellon Kanadaan.
