The large privately owned estate of Villandry is made of several gardens, of which the most famous are the Renaissance and the vegetable gardens. Around the Renaissance chateau built in 1536 by Jean le Breton, King Francis I finance minister is the 6 gardens that stretch on 17 acres: the vegetable garden, the Renaissance garden, the water garden, the herb garden, the sun garden, and the maze.
The estate of Villandry is privately owned and belongs to the descendant of M Carvallo, a Spanish man, who, with his wife from New England, Ann Coleman, renovated the gardens and opened them to the public.
